Requirements/ Application Process

To apply for the program, candidates must have:

• A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university 
• An application for admission 
• A $100 non-refundable application fee 
• An official copy of transcripts* 
• A current resume 
• Two current letters of recommendation (within the past year) 
• A current copy of your License with Stipulations from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (if applicable) 
• Access to email and the Internet

*Official transcripts must bear the seal imprint and/or original signature of the college registrar and be submitted in an unopened envelope or sent electronically from the institution.  

In addition:

• The PBL Program requires that you pass a basic skills assessment for educators in Reading, Writing and Mathematics by the end of your second semester. Failure to do so will result in your withdrawal from the PBL program. Opportunities to take the basic skills assessment will be offered at CESA #1 once each semester. 
• For the Elementary/Middle Education K-9 license, the PBL Program requires that you have Content Knowledge BEFORE you are approved and can start the program.
  • You must take and pass the Praxis II Middle School Content Knowledge test #5146, before you can begin the PBL Program.
  • Please have your test score sent to CESA #1, #9041.
• A background check will be conducted on all applicants.
• To teach Math, Science, Business Education, Music, Family and Consumer Education (FACE), Foreign Language, English as a Second Language, or Technology Education, candidates must have a major in that area or a letter from their university stating that the coursework is equivalent to a major.
• To teach Special Education, candidates must demonstrate involvement with children with disabilities.
• To teach Bilingual Education, candidates must demonstrate proficiency in English and the second language they will teach.
• For the Music Education license, the PBL Program requires that you have Content Knowledge BEFORE you are approved and can start the program.
  • You must take and pass the Praxis II Music Content Knowledge test #5113, before you can begin the PBL Program.
  • Please have your test score sent to CESA #1, #9041.
• For the Science Education license, the PBL Program requires that you have Content Knowledge BEFORE you are approved and can start the program.
  • You must take and pass the Praxis II Science Content Knowledge test #5436, before you can begin the PBL Program.
  • Please have your test score sent to CESA #1, #9041.

For candidates that currently have a teaching position, the following items are required:

• A letter of employment verification from a school administrator.
• A current copy of your License with Stipulations from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
